Scolmore lends a helping hand to family in need

A recent episode of the popular BBC TV series DIY SOS: the big build, shone a light on the plight of a family in Morpeth, Northumberland, struggling to cope in a house that was not fit to accommodate them.

Four generations of the family needed to live together to provide support for each other with their various and complex medical and mental health needs.  However, the house was neither big enough nor safe enough for them and resulted in the grandmother and great grandmother in the family having to move out to separate accommodation. This is where DIY SOS and its band of volunteering workers and suppliers came together to make the family’s dream of a shared life together come true.

Scolmore has had a long association with the show, with resident sparky, Billy Byrne, a regular visitor at the company’s offices and events. Through Billy, Scolmore supplied more than 100 different electrical accessory products for installation in the newly transformed home. The Deco wiring accessories collection in an antique brass finish were selected for the project, including socket outlets, switches, TV points, a cooker switch and fan isolator switch.

Tony Forsythe was the Project Manager overseeing the work to transform the family’s home and he had this to say: “Until I became involved in this project, I hadn’t worked with Scolmore’s Click wiring accessories range. I was amazed by the quality of construction, the luxury feel, the generous sized terminals as well as the quality of the terminations. The finish to the Deco accessories is absolutely stunning and, in my opinion, they stood out as a feature against the surroundings.

“I think these have to be the best decorative accessories I have fitted. They provide a high end look at a very good, competitive price. Stunning looks and a joy to fit, is how I would sum them up.”
